A Bokashi Compost Workshop was held on Saturday 24th August by Timebank Member Peter Van Vurren. Thank you to Peter for your time and sharing of knowledge. We learnt all about what actually is Bokashi Compost (a quick and effective method of composting), how to start it, what to use and how amazing it can turn ordinary, nutrient lacking soil into rich, dark soil ready to grow amazing vegetables. Often, compost takes a long time to decompose and is not ready to use until months after from starting it. Bokashi compost is ready to use within 4 weeks!
Bokashi is great as you can use typical compost items you wouldn't normally put in a compost (well some don't), i.e. onion skins, citrus peels etc.
Peter spent the two hours explaining and showing us how to make it. We got to see, smell and touch the amazing compost. We took home a small sample of the starter of the EM1, and after getting a bucket and lid, the Bokashi Compost is ready to begin!
