"The Hobbit Cobbin"

Updated: 7 days ago

Whangārei Green Drinks this March was kindly hosted by TTT members Casey and Chris Wyeth in their Onerahi home.

It’s amazing what you can build with straw, clay, horse poo and recycled palettes! Inspired by a cob building course in the USA last year, Casey came home and started building her ‘Hobbit Cobbin’ in their garden.

A fair amount of earth work was necessary to create the platform, volunteers and experts in cob building were ‘imported’ from the US, but all the building materials were locally sourced.

Green drinks devotees soaked up the creative process and were inspired by the potential to create a warm, dry, carbon-neutral & very beautiful building that blends into the landscape. A ‘living’ roof will be planted with sun-loving succulents and so the Hobbit Cobbin will be invisible from the sky!

Thank you Casey & Chris for sharing with us what’s possible when you use your imagination, creativity, ingenuity and local materials from the Earth. A living, breathing building that blends perfectly with its surroundings.

As TTT members, they get time credits for hosting the evening and with other members mixing and mingling at the event the Timebank message is spread!
